Delaware Moves to Ban Plastic Foam

The same bill would make plastic straws available only on request

DE State Senator Paradee has introduced a bill that would ban expanded polystyrene foam, also known as Styrofoam, in food-ware containers and in some other packaging. The proposed law goes further by banning plastic coffee stirrers, cocktail picks, and sandwich picks, and it would make plastic straws available only by request.

Surfrider Foundation will be testifying and supporting this bill on its journey through the legislature. You can do your part by emailing your Delaware elected officials in this Action Alert here.

Plastic straws and pieces of plastic foam are consistently found on Delaware's Beaches through chapter beach cleanups. That information can be accessed through Surfrider Foundation's Beach Cleanup Database here.
