Protect Pacifica's Coast from Rising Seas

Protect Pacifica's Coast from Rising Seas

Protect Pacifica's stunning coastline and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.

The City of Pacifica is currently in the midst of an important planning process known as the Local Coastal Program (LCP). The LCP serves as a blueprint for managing and preserving the city's coast.

The California Coastal Commission has reviewed the City's plan and is suggesting modifications to help protect the coast and public access. The Commission will approve or deny the City's plan at a hearing this summer.

Unfortunately, the City's current proposal leans heavily towards a strategy of hard armoring in several key policies, prioritizing sea walls and structures that may have unintended consequences and prohibit consideration of relocating development out of harm's way.

This approach could lead to the drowning of our beautiful coastlines, loss of vital habitats, and reduced public access to the beaches.

We're rallying together to support the Coastal Commission staff's suggested modifications to the City of Pacifica's LCP update, particularly in relation to coastal hazards.

These recommendations, informed by scientific expertise and a commitment to coastal resilience, offer a path towards a more sustainable and adaptable future for Pacifica's coastline.
